To CHANGE or Not to CHANGE?

“I can’t help myself! “,  says the angry man as he hits his wife.

“I was born this way”, says the psychotic woman.

“I’ve tried to change.  I can’t help myself.  I’ve just given up”, says weary people who have tried to change their lifestyle.

“No one can really change”, is the mantra of the day.  Christians, particularly older ones, state they have fear tried to change their minds.  Yet they are still bound by their past.  Bound by extreme fear and anxiety, etc.  A prisoner of their self-destructive habits.

Those who really WANT change – take drugs or legalized drugs (medications).  They feel it is the only way to find peace.

This is SAD!  Why?  Because the church is ALL ABOUT CHANGE.  This is the primary message of the Gospel is CHANGE, newness, a new mind, a new heart.

What has happened to us that we have lost this?  This is grievous.

God is SOOO much about change that He uses 4 words to describe the different approaches and views of CHANGE.

The words are:

  • Transformation (Romans 12:2)
  • Renewal (II Corinthians 4:16)
  • Regeneration (Titus 3:5)
  • Restoration (Lamentations 5:21)

One of our problems is that when we came to Christ and we are saved, there was that initial “buzz” of salvation.  What we failed to understand is that CHANGE is supposed to be – ONGOING.  Look at:

II Corinthians 4:16 – Therefore, we do not lose heart.  Though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.

Notice the  word “being” in front of the word “renewed”?  That means it is an ONGOING PROCESS!  It’s not supposed to to stop!

Ok, so some of you might say, “Well why hasn’t it worked for me?”

Good question.  Here’s the thing.  We are called to pursue Jesus everyday of our lives.  To present ourselves to Him as a living sacrifice – everyday.

Romans 12:2 – And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…

If you put God in a position of giving you a new heart and mind but you don’t give Him the time – then you are making God your personal Genie-in-a-bottle.  You expect Him to just ZAP you and you are all new.  Totally wrong!

Here’s the other thing.  Transformation does not occur until we gain a new mind.

Ok, so how does that happen?  Good question.  God calls us to come after Him daily.

Luke 9:23 – If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

Joshua 1:8 – This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you will mediate on it day and night….

What we think on is WHO WE ARE!  How can we expect change in our lives when we dedicate our minds and lives to other things?

What do you want changed in your life?  What do you think about?

Change will never come unless you take up your cross daily and consecrate yourself to Jesus.  Meditate on His Word – daily.  Lay yourself at His feet.  He is our only source of real change – transformation, renewal, regeneration, and restoration.
